Operational Policies

QHS’ operational policies set out at a high level the way in which the hospital or department will function. Comprehensive operational policies are key to ensuring a new hospital is planned and designed in a manner which suits the intended working practices, such as centralised or decentralised processes. These policies will define the optimum utilisation of resources thus ensuring the most efficient working practices are installed. In this way, both capital and operating costs can be reduced.

Later, these operational policies assist the commissioning processes in determining the manpower plans, recruitment policies, staff training, implementation of the HIS. They form the basis of whichever quality and accreditation systems the hospital chooses to install.

Incoming managers understand the way in which their department is expected to ‘fit’ into the organisation, what services they are responsible for and who is providing support to them.
